Annapurna Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth through education, ensuring food security, and promoting environmental sustainability in Nepal. Rooted in the symbolic essence of Annapurna, the goddess of abundance and nourishment, our mission is to create sustainable, equitable, and resilient food systems that empower communities and protect the environment.

Our Inspiration

The foundation was born from a journey, both personal and collective. Inspired by his travels across Nepal’s Great Himalaya Trail, the founder, Paribesh Pradhan, spent a month in and around the Everest region and witnessed firsthand the challenges youth face in accessing education. Seeing how youth in communities along the trail lacked educational opportunities, he started a fundraising campaign, Trek4Education. As the movement grew, so did the need for a sustainable approach, leading to the establishment of the Annapurna Foundation.

5 D Approach For Annapurna Foundation

This 5D Approach—Document, Disseminate, Debate, Deconstruct, and Demand for Accountability creates a holistic, action-oriented framework for Annapurna Foundation to strengthen its mission to educate, empower, and sustain. It empowers communities to take ownership of their development while driving systemic change across Nepal.

Documentation

Annapurna Foundation collects and shares stories that highlight the impact and challenges faced by communities in Nepal, especially youth, regarding governance, food security, and environmental sustainability. This helps build strong evidence to guide strategy, advocacy, and funding efforts.

Dissemination

Annapurna Foundation empowers young people to get involved in governance systems and drive change by sharing knowledge and experiences. This includes publishing reports, holding events, using digital platforms, and teaming up with local media to raise awareness and amplify youth voices on issues like governance, food security, and sustainability.

Debate

Annapurna Foundation creates spaces for open dialogue and critical thinking, where young people can discuss important issues and explore solutions. Through youth forums, podcasts, panel talks, and roundtables with policymakers and other stakeholders, it encourages inclusive and democratic decision-making.

Deconstruct

Through critical analysis and a deeper exploration of root causes, Annapurna Foundation equips youth with the knowledge and tools to question dominant narratives, identify and challenge systemic inequities, and uncover barriers limiting their opportunities to ultimately empower them to break down unfair systems and create fairer, more inclusive ways of thinking and acting.

Demand for Accountability

Annapurna Foundation teaches young people the skills and knowledge to speak up and hold the government accountable. It supports advocacy by building coalitions with like-minded groups and civil society organizations, so together they can make a stronger voice and take action for change.
